New Email Rules: Protect Your Business from Spam Filters

Is Your Business Email Setup Ready for 2024 Changes?

Are you confident your business emails are reaching your customers’ inboxes? With recent changes in email authentication standards, it’s more important than ever to ensure your setup is optimized for proper delivery. Here’s what you need to know—and how to secure your email delivery.

Why Email Authentication Matters

Whenever you send an email, a complex system of background checks takes place. Email providers like Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo analyze these emails to determine whether they’re authentic. Their goal? To block spam and phishing attempts—malicious emails pretending to be trustworthy, often aimed at stealing sensitive information.

For your emails to pass these tests, they must comply with three key protocols:

SPF (Sender Policy Framework)
SPF is like a guest list for your emails. When you send an email, the receiving server checks if your domain is authorized to send from that email address. If it’s not, the email may be blocked or flagged as spam.

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail)
DKIM works like a digital signature. It ensures the email hasn’t been tampered with during transit, proving that it truly originated from your domain.

DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance)
DMARC sets the rules for how your email provider handles unauthorized messages. It can instruct them to reject, quarantine, or allow the message through with a warning.

The 2024 Game-Changer

As of February 2024, major email providers, including Gmail and Yahoo, have made DKIM and DMARC mandatory for email delivery. Without these protocols in place, your emails might never reach your audience.

Shockingly, many businesses are still unaware of these requirements, leading to a significant portion of emails going undelivered. Don’t let your business fall into this trap.
