Cyber attacks are happening at an unprecedented pace, with intruders navigating through a network in a very short amount of time. The average time has dropped to just 62 minutes, down from 84 minutes last year*. The report also identified 34 new cybercriminal factions, bringing the total to over 230 groups monitored by the organization.
Unfortunately, cyber adversaries are not standing idly by. They are refining their tactics and increasing their sophistication. The report highlights a new record breakout time of just two minutes and seven seconds. This leaves very little time for effective defense strategies.
The most concerning aspect is the growing role of the human element as the primary gateway for these cyber intrusions. Perpetrators often exploit human vulnerabilities by coaxing individuals into clicking on links in phishing emails, leading them to counterfeit login pages. Once legitimate credentials are unwittingly divulged, the breach occurs. Alternatively, they masquerade as trusted individuals within your organization, employing social engineering tactics to deceive unsuspecting staff members.
In order to safeguard your business against these cyber threats, consider taking the following measures:
Educate your staff:
Provide regular training sessions to keep your team informed about the latest cyber threats and how to identify them.
Enforce robust password protocols:
Encourage the use of complex, randomly generated passwords managed by password managers. Incorporate multi-factor authentication for an additional layer of protection.
Maintain up-to-date systems:
Ensure all software and systems receive the latest security patches promptly.
Invest in cyber security solutions:
Consider investing in reputable cyber security software capable of detecting and mitigating threats in real-time.
Back up your data:
Regularly back up your data and store it securely.
When it comes to cyber security, it’s better to be safe than sorry. If we can help you to stay better prepared, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
